Chin Liposuction

As chin is a significant feature in a person’s facial profile, double chin can detract the person’s appearance. A good chin will define the shape and proportions of the face and enhance it. Chin is an area where fat gets accumulated easily, especially underneath it and causes laxity to the muscles of the skin under the chin. Chin liposuction will help to dislodge fat deposits beneath the chin, as it is difficult to lose this excess fat through exercising the chin and neck. Exercising only tones up the muscles.

Initial step is to find out if a person is suitable for doing chin liposuction. The person must have their weight within the normal range or at least thirty percent within this range. Even though there is no age bar for this procedure, usually it works better for women and younger people between thirty and forty. This is because they have better elasticity of the skin. Moreover, women have thinner skin and therefore the chin liposuction will be finer. For people without elastic skin, it will have to be tightened after doing chin liposuction, using procedure like facelift.  People afflicted with ailments of the heart, problems in lungs or are diabetic are not fit for chin liposuction. After comprehensive discussions with the liposuction doctor, decide on what method to adopt for chin liposuction to rectify the double chin.

Procedure For Chin Liposuction

Modern chin liposuction is comparatively painless, cheaper and requires only a little downtime to recover from the procedure. Incisions are very small and made where they can be concealed by the patient’s jaw line. They will not be really visible to even closer scrutiny. Doctor inserts a tiny stainless steel or titanium wand instead of larger equipments, which will require larger incisions. This reduces the bleeding, bruising and quickens the recovery period. Sometimes to do chin liposuction, there might be need to augment it with implants like Dacron, silicon and Teflon. Another way is to make in the jawbone a horizontal incision and then doctor slides the disunited bone into the required position. These procedures are done through the incisions made in the mouth. Fat is then eliminated by liposuction through the incision below the chin. The platysma placation or tightening of the muscle sling is also done through this incision

Post Chin Liposuction Procedure

The patients will experience some minor discomfort. If necessary, patients can even go back to work next day. But bandages take longer to be removed, and so does the moderate bruising and swelling to subside. After about one week, the sutures need to be removed from the incision beneath the chin. Since there is not too much fat to be eliminated, the procedure will be fast and non invasive, in comparison with other types of liposuction procedures. For chin implants the sutures are done inside, which will melt and get absorbed by the body. If tumescent liposuction is used to do chin liposuction, then a compression garment like an elastic strap must be worn for a few days. Excess fat from chin can also be corrected through facelift procedure or laser resurfacing.
