Body Mass Index For KidsBody Mass Index Measurement is also known by the name of Quetelet Index measurement. Body Mass Index Measurement is popularly known all across the globe as BMI. The BMI is a statistically measured weight of a person in accordance to that person’s height. Lambert Adolphe Jacques Quételet, a Belgian learned person between the era of 1830 to 1850 invented this measurement technique. It was invented during the developing course of “Social physic”. Body Mass Index for kids is especially important because it is required to figure out whether your child runs the risk of overweight or underweight. If your child is overweight it means that the body mass index of your child is over 95th percentile. If your child has a body mass index of over 85th percentile then he/she is defined as overweight. It is also known that the body fat is not directly measured by BMI so it is definitely possible to be overweight and not obese. There are some kids who have great muscles and are physically very strong. They might be overweight but if they do not have excessive body weight then there is no requirement of them to loose their weight. However it is always seen that majority of the children who have an extra amount of weight stored in their body also suffer from obessity. They also do not require any help with that of weight management. The formula of measuring the body mass index is a person’s body weight divided up by the square of that person’s height. This formula has been used universally in cases of medicine production. Like a unit of measure has been counted as kg/m2. There are many other formulas as well to count the Body Mass Index Measurement or BMI. Like according to International System of Units the BMI can be counted as BMI= weight (kg)/ height2 (m2). As per US customary units it can be counted as BMI= 703* [weight (1b)/ height2 (in2)]. The Imperial units uses the formula as BMI=6.35* [weight (stone)/ height2 (m2)]. However it should be noted that when your child is underweight this means he has a body mass index which is less than that of 5th percentile. This can also be termed as normal only if your child has an intake of a healthy diet and is always full of energy and enthusiasm. But it is also not good to be underweight as it can lead to many health problems in the long run. But you should always keep in mind that it is not at all safe to be anxious if you do not have a perfect body image. You should always trust your own body judgement if you want to have a healthy body. More than physical fitness it is more important to have a healthy mind. Until and unless you have a healthy mind it is not at all possible to carry on the physical activities with that much gusto and enthusiasm. The Body Mass Index is considered to be the ideal standard in the measurement of the height and the width of the body and nothing seems to be perfect other than the BMI scale. |
